Chelsea strike £35m deal for Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion with Conor Gallagher heading in opposite direction
Chelsea will sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion for £35 million ($44 million), with Conor Gallagher going the opposite way.
It was reported earlier this week that the Blues had renewed their interest in 20-year-old Omorodion, and they have now reached an agreement with Atletico, with midfielder Gallagher heading in the opposite direction in a separate transaction.
According to various sources, Chelsea will spend £35 million plus add-ons to get the Spain Under-21 international, who will sign a seven-year deal after excelling on loan at Alaves last season.
Gallagher is due to go to Madrid to finalize his £34 million ($43.4 million) transfer to Atletico Madrid, while Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez is expected to come with him to the Wanda Metropolitano in a move for up to £82 million ($104 million), a club record for the Premier League winners.
It had been claimed that Atleti would not approve Omorodion’s sale until a successor was found, but after a brief delay, the move for Alvarez is anticipated to proceed.
He scored eight goals in 35 appearances for the other La Liga club but has yet to debut for Diego Simeone’s side.
When Omorodion will reunite with his new teammates is yet unknown since he is presently overseas, representing Spain at the Olympics in Paris. Following a disastrous preseason tour of the United States, Chelsea has returned to the United Kingdom. On Sunday, they play their final friendly at Stamford Bridge against Inter.
