Chelsea release new 2023/24 home kit in stunning announcement after sponsor decision made.
After keeping fans waiting for weeks, Chelsea has now made their new home kit for the 2023/24 season available. The new matchday jerseys have also been shown, following last week’s introduction of their new training gear line, which is sponsored by Trivago.
After several days of teasers on the club’s social media platforms, the formal announcement has now arrived with confirmation of an ode to the 1997–98 squad, which finished fourth in the Premier League and won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and League Cup.
“While changes take place at the club, the pride stays the same. Interior shirt detail nods to exactly this – Chelsea FC remains the ‘Pride of London,” the official club announcement reads. The top, which has been revealed without a front-of-shirt sponsor due to ongoing issues securing a viable partnership, includes a golden club badge and Nike logo with the standard blue chest plate.
Chelsea have adopted a simple style that has white underarms and a white sleeve outline in place of the colourful backdrop designs and textures of previous seasons.
In keeping with the 1998 shirt, one of the most well-known in recent memory, there is also a white stripe inside the collar.
The principal sponsor is, however, the component that stands out the most. On June 30, Chelsea’s three-year contract with Three, a major provider of mobile phones, came to an end. Since then, no replacement partner has been officially announced.
A final big sponsor is still lacking despite separate agreements with Oman Air and Hilton as official airline and hotel partners.
The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust made a damning statement following a letter sent to the club’s owners, expressing worry over such a contract, following rumours that gambling and casino operator, Stake, were in talks to take up such a position. Chelsea have taken an unusual stance to reveal their uniform without a sponsor at this time because no further decisions have been made.
Within the release of the kit, the club said: “Fans should be aware that the 2023/24 home kit that features on pitch may subsequently feature a front-of-shirt partner. The club will communicate any changes to the kit in due course.”
They are the only top-division side in England to do such a thing this season, though Serie A giants Roma are in a similar position. Chelsea now travel to America for their pre-season tour and will be able to show off their new style to fans USA. The shirt will be available for fans to purchase by August 23.
