Chelsea dramatically boosted their chances of securing European football next season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest. Mauricio Pochettino’s side appeared headed for defeat until a late flurry of goals turned the tide in their favor.
Former Chelsea player Callum Hudson-Odoi put Forest ahead with a superbly curled finish after Willy Boly had canceled out Mykhailo Mudryk’s early strike. However, Chelsea mounted a stunning comeback with two goals in quick succession.
Raheem Sterling ignited the turnaround with a strike from outside the box, followed by Nicolas Jackson heading home from close range after an assist from substitute Reece James.
The match saw both teams hitting the woodwork on multiple occasions in a frantic second half. Notably, Chris Wood’s miss from close range with the score at 1-1 stood out as one of the season’s biggest blunders.
The result sees Chelsea level on points with sixth-placed Newcastle and three points clear of Manchester United, bolstered by a significantly superior goal difference. The race for European slots could extend as far down as seventh place by the season’s end.
Despite the loss, Forest remains three points above relegation-threatened Luton with one game remaining. However, Luton would need to overturn a significant goal difference deficit in the final match, ensuring Forest’s safety for the upcoming season under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
