Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has addressed the growing reaction to his recent comments about the club’s supporters, moving quickly to clear the air and insist that his words were misinterpreted.

The Italian manager explained that his remarks were never intended as a swipe at the fans, but rather an honest assessment of the realities involved in building a new team and identity at Stamford Bridge.
He stressed that Chelsea’s supporters remain a vital part of the club’s foundation, describing their backing as deeply woven into the club’s DNA.
Maresca, however, made it clear that his immediate attention is firmly on the task ahead, choosing not to dwell on the controversy. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s next fixture, he said:
“I have nothing to add. My focus is on tomorrow’s game and achieving the third semi-final in my time at the club. I said what I had to say very clearly. We focus on Cardiff now”.
Enzo Maresca 🗣️ “We are now in an era where everyone can say anything they like. It’s their opinion if they try to read meaning into what I said, but I have nothing to add regarding that comment.”

The former Manchester City assistant also acknowledged the intensity that comes with managing a club of Chelsea’s stature. According to him, the expectations from the stands are justified, as fans naturally demand strong performances and consistent results from a team with such a rich history.
Maresca added that progress at the club will require unity, emphasising that success can only be achieved when players, coaching staff, and supporters are aligned in purpose as Chelsea continues its journey towards stability and long-term growth.
Chelsea will face Cardiff City in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
The Blues’ supporters will be hoping the team can build on their recent Premier League victory over Everton as they chase what could be their first piece of silverware in the 2025/26 season.
