Rising singer, Cheef Chebe offers deep reflection into different aspects of life in new EP ‘Trailer’.
Cheef Chebe’s new EP, Trailer, offers a broad look at the highs and lows of life, blending positive energy with deep reflections. Each of the five tracks presents a unique take on navigating modern life’s chaos.
The EP kicks off with “Wonderful Life,” a celebratory anthem that emphasizes gratitude despite life’s challenges. “Asibiri” explores intercultural love and the resilience needed to overcome societal and familial barriers. “Kasa” addresses the complexities of honesty in a world where truth can be difficult due to fear of others’ reactions. “Ambatayala” encourages embracing village wisdom and finding comfort in shared human experiences, reminding listeners that struggles are universal. Lastly, “P-Governments” tackles political corruption in Africa, contrasting the continent’s rich resources with the stark poverty many face.
Recorded between Glasgow and Accra, Trailer marks Chebe’s transition from his collaborative work with the Glasgow African Balafon Orchestra (GABO) to a personal solo debut.
Originally from Ghana, Chebe moved to Scotland in 1997 after marrying his Scottish wife, Helen. Since then, he has become a prominent figure in Glasgow’s artistic and African community.
With a rich background in traditional Ghanaian music, Chebe blends folklore, rhythm, and healing energy in his performances, featuring instruments like the Djembe drum and the Balafon. He is the founder and music director of GABO and has produced notable works, including the upcoming albums Lift and Lift Up with GABO. Chebe has also self-published several books exploring African stories and traditions.
In addition to his musical and literary contributions, Chebe is an engaging entertainer, community advocate, laughter coach, happiness guru, and former chair of the Ghana Welfare Association in Scotland.
