Burna Boy launches a football academy in Lagos
Nigerian Afrobeat star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has launched the ‘Burna Boy Football Academy’ in Lagos, further expanding his influence beyond the music industry.
This new initiative aims to contribute to the development of African football by providing a structured training program for young athletes.
The academy operates three days a week, with each session lasting two hours. Recently, videos showcasing the academy’s facilities and activities surfaced online, surprising and delighting fans.
In the viral footage, young footballers can be seen training on the field under the guidance of a coach, while another clip shows the players enjoying Burna Boy’s music and celebrating after a successful training session.
According to the academy’s official website, the program is designed for young football enthusiasts in two age groups: junior boys aged 4-15 and senior boys aged 16-21. The academy offers training in multiple locations, including Ikoyi, Surulere, Port Harcourt, and Abuja.
Burna Boy’s football academy represents a significant effort to nurture young talent in Africa, providing them with the opportunity to develop their skills and pursue their dreams in football.

Recall, Burna Boy has taken to social media to clear up the misunderstanding surrounding his recent album release announcement.
On July 29, Burna Boy tweeted, “Album dropping 12am,” leading many fans and media outlets to assume that his new album would be released at midnight on the same day.
However, on Sunday, August 11, Burna Boy clarified that he never specified the date—only the time. In a follow-up tweet, he wrote, “Ladies and gentlemen, A valuable lesson on paying attention to detail. I said 12am, I never said what date. No be say I whine una o Na una Lose guard” (translated as “It’s not me who misled you; it’s you who weren’t paying attention”).
