African performers such as Tems and Burna Boy from Nigeria, Black Sherif from Ghana, Blxckie from South Africa, and Nadia Nakai from Zimbabwe are among the nominees for the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, which will be taped on September 30 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta.

The awards, which were first presented in 2006, honour the top music video directors, producers, and performers in the hip-hop genre.

For her participation in Future’s song “Wait For U,” which also features Drake from Canada, Tems received two nominations: Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.

Black Sherif, Blxckie, and Nadia Nakai are nominated for Best International Flow, with Benjamin Epps and Le Juiice (France), Central Cee and Knucks (UK), Tasha & Tracie (Brazil), and Haviah Mighty (USA) (Canada).

Burna Boy was shortlisted in the Video Director of the Year category for his effort on the visuals for ‘Last Last’.

Meanwhile, Drake leads the pack with 14 nods, followed by Kanye West with 10 and Kendrick Lamar with nine.

Rapper Fat Joe will host the awards this year. “We’re going to celebrate music, culture, and entertainment, honour the biggest and brightest stars in the world and make this an unforgettable night full of laughs and surprises,” he said.

He is a treasured friend of the network and we’ve loved seeing and supporting his evolution to becoming the superstar he is today.
