Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has set social media alight after revealing that he has embraced Islam, a surprising personal revelation that has stirred conversations far beyond the music scene.

During a candid chat on US streamer PlaqueBoyMax’s Twitch live session, the “Ye” hitmaker opened up about his spiritual journey, disclosing that although he was born into a Christian home, he has since converted to Islam after years of personal reflection.
“I was born Christian because my parents were Christians,” Burna Boy explained calmly, “but as I grew older and began to study and understand life on my own, I found Islam. It came naturally to me.”
The statement took many fans and even PlaqueBoyMax himself by surprise. The streamer appeared visibly stunned during the conversation, admitting he never expected Burna Boy, known for his bold personality and Afro-fusion sound, to identify as Muslim.
The revelation comes shortly after Burna Boy made another headline-grabbing remark, declaring that Fela Kuti remains the only Afrobeats artist greater than him a statement that had already sparked lively debate online.
For Burna, however, the discussion around faith seemed deeply personal. He described his conversion not as a sudden change but as the result of a gradual spiritual discovery that aligned with his evolving understanding of life.
“I just kept learning and researching,” he added. “And Islam made sense to me in ways that felt effortless.”
While reactions have been mixed, with fans expressing everything from admiration to curiosity, many have commended Burna Boy for speaking openly about his beliefs.
