    Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, has responded to people who have criticised him for his silence and non-participation in the 2023 national elections.

    He claimed that he is not actively supporting or campaigning for any candidates in this election and has never done so in the past.

    Burna Boy stated that the reason is that he does not want to force people to vote for a particular candidate and risk having them criticised if they win but fall short of expectations.

    The self-described African Giant announced this on his social media page and expressed his desire for the most qualified candidate to be elected.

    He wrote: “I dunno why it’s such a big deal to some Nigerians that I’ve not been vocal about the elections. Personally I don’t have a candidate that I believe in. I’ve never supported any political party or candidate in my life because I don’t want to make you vote and then blame me when the person fuc*ks up as usual.

    That being said, I hope all votes count and the best man wins.”

    Furthermore, on his Instagram story, Burna Boy posted his conversation with a user who advised him not to try to defend his decision to remain silent during the election.

    The musician responded to the fan by saying that they were only searching for someone to tell them which politician to vote for. He also suggested that they look up to someone else.

    In his words;

    “If it’s who will show you who to vote for ur looking for, please look up to someone else.

    Burna Boy was questioned by a fan on why he earned money from singing about the hardship in Nigeria and remained silent throughout the voting process. Burna responded by saying he would now begin singing about China.

    Nevertheless, in another post, Burna slammed Nigerians, claiming that whatever he does for the country is not for validation and is not because he owes anyone anything.

    The musician stated that he never received money from the Nigerian government, never accepted money from a governor, and never accepted any positions in public service.
