Afrobeats heavyweight Burna Boy has stepped into the spotlight for a different reason after donating ₦140 million to a non-governmental organization run by controversial social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), instantly becoming the single highest donor to the initiative.

The development came to public attention after VeryDarkMan took to social media to announce the donation, sharing proof of the transaction, which showed the funds credited directly to the NGO’s official account.
He disclosed that the money was transferred through Burna Boy’s brand, Spaceship Collective.
With the latest contribution, Burna Boy has overtaken music executive Don Jazzy, who had earlier donated ₦100 million to the same cause.
The move now places the Grammy-winning singer at the top of the donor list, further drawing attention to the NGO’s growing profile and influence.
Reacting to the donation, VeryDarkMan explained that the funds would be deployed strictly for humanitarian purposes.
According to him, the money would go toward paying fines for inmates who are unable to secure their release, as well as covering urgent medical bills for Nigerians in need.
He stressed that the organisation remains focused on social intervention projects aimed at providing relief for vulnerable individuals across the country.
The donation has since sparked conversations online, with many praising Burna Boy for backing social causes beyond music, while others continue to debate the growing role of public figures in grassroots humanitarian efforts.
