Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has shattered records on Spotify Nigeria with the release of his latest single, “Higher.” Following an emphatic start to 2024, Burna Boy’s new track, which takes an emotional trip back to his hometown of Port Harcourt, has set a new record for the biggest opening week stream for a song on Spotify Nigeria. “Higher” amassed 2.3 million streams in its opening week, surpassing the previous record of 2.1 million streams held by Rema & Shallipopi’s “Benin Boys.”

This achievement comes after “Higher” also set the record for the biggest opening day streams for a solo song by an African artist on Spotify. Released on June 27, 2024, the single sees Burna Boy reflecting on the importance of recognizing what truly matters while celebrating the euphoria of success.

Burna Boy’s “Higher” breaks & set a new a record for the highest weekly streams for a song on Spotify Nigeria 🇳🇬 as it debuts with 2.6M streams.

Burna Boy’s new record is just one of many firsts for the artist, including the highest-grossing concert by an African artist in the United States and the highest-grossing tour by an African artist in Canada.

The music video for “Higher” features an emotional return to Port Harcourt, where Burna Boy participates in outreach efforts from his charity “Project PROTECT,” in partnership with The R.E.A.C.H., to provide essential services to underserved populations in Nigeria.

The release of “Higher” comes just days before Burna Boy’s historic 2024 London Stadium concert, where he became the first African artist to sell out the 80,000-capacity stadium twice.
