Nigerian sonic artist Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, better known as Brymo, has sparked an online debate when he revealed his controversial response to Simi’s collaboration request.
After former Chocolate City singer Brymo revealed what he had said to award-winning artist Simi when she had previously requested a duet before she got married, social media went into a frenzy.
In a post published today, Friday, July 21, 2023, the singer said that Simi had asked for a collaboration before she wed singer Adekunle Gold and that he had asked to have an intimate moment with her.
The startling information was made immediately after a fan on social media asked about Adekunle Gold’s future project and whether Brymo will be featured.
Brymo quoted the question with a reply that stunned many and read, “..though AG reached out later, I like to think that he didn’t check in again, by will or fate because I turned down same request many years before…I also did same with Simi… said I wanted to get intimate to create intensity.. I didn’t know they were together of course.”
His response spurred a debate about how much female musicians must put up with to secure collaborations, endorsements, and other opportunities in the music industry.
