Chelsea agree mutual termination with Graham Potter
Chelsea has terminated Graham Potter’s contract following a disastrous 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
The Chelsea manager signed a long-term contract with the club in September, succeeding Thomas Tuchel, who Todd Boehly sacked following a loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
Nevertheless, things haven’t gone precisely as planned for the former Brighton manager since then. The Blues are 11th in the Premier League league after losing 10 games this season, and they have struggled to score goals under Potter, a problem he suffered at times during his tenure on the south coast.
Boehly had intended to stick with Potter, giving him time to turn things around. Still, a consensus decision was reached to split ways after goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn handed Unai Emery’s Villa a perfectly deserved victory at Stamford Bridge.
The club have now confirmed the decision to let Potter leave: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition.
“In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter-final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.”
