Bose Ogulu reveals need for responsible management
Veteran music manager Bose Ogulu, also known as Mama Burna, has spoken out about the crucial role management plays in an artist’s career.
She currently manages the thriving career of her son, Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy. In an interview, she explained that a strong management team is paramount for an artist’s success.
“A manager is more responsible than the artiste,” Ogulu said. “You need to have a responsible management that you respect for you to do well.”
Ogulu, who grew up watching her father, Benson Idonije, manage Fela Kuti, highlighted the often-underrated importance of management in the music industry.
She explained that a good manager acts as a guide, strategist, and advocate for the artist, helping shape the artist’s public image.
Ogulu herself is a prime example of a successful music manager. Her guidance has been instrumental in Burna Boy’s rise to Afrobeats stardom, with a string of hit albums, international collaborations, and historic sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden and the London Stadium.
