Why I found it easier to pick Burna Boy ahead of Wizkid and Davido – BNXN spills in new interview (Watch)
In a recent statement, popular Nigerian singer BNXN shared why he found it easier to choose Burna Boy over Wizkid and Davido. BNXN, alongside his collaborator Ruger, just dropped a joint album titled “RnB,” short for Ruger and BNXN, and they sat down for an interview with Billboard News.
During the interview, Ruger praised Grammy Award winner Burna Boy for elevating Afrobeat onto the global stage with his live performances.
Ruger highlighted that before Burna Boy popularized live band performances, most African artists simply performed with DJs. He emphasized Burna Boy’s ability to make Afrobeats more enjoyable through his incorporation of live music, bringing numerous bandsmen on stage with him, which Ruger described as “sweeter.”
While Ruger acknowledged Davido and Wizkid as influential leaders in the music industry whose footsteps many artists follow, he particularly lauded Burna Boy for his innovation and impact on live performances.
Expanding on Ruger’s sentiments, BNXN expressed his preference for Burna Boy over Wizkid and Davido. He described Burna Boy as “He’s him,” using an American colloquialism to signify Burna Boy’s unique identity and unwavering authenticity. BNXN commended Burna Boy’s flawless stage presence and his consistent elevation of the real Afrobeats sound on the global stage through his live performances.

In the conversation with Nandi Madiba, BNXN emphasized that the ‘RnB‘ EP showcased synergy at its peak, highlighting the seamless blend of their talents and creative energies.
“It shows quality, it shows the real essence of collaboration – how to bounce off each other, how to learn from each other, how to pick this and flow off what this person [did]. It’s like a relay race,” BNXN said on the 7-track project, which serves as a celebration of the truce between both artists after nearly 2 years of rift.
