BNXN clashes with Mayorkun, fan on X over career achievements
Nigerian singer BNXN, formerly known as Buju, has found himself embroiled in a heated exchange with fellow artist Mayorkun and fan Dotman on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).
The drama started when Dotman compared the two musicians, asserting that Mayorkun had sold out more shows single-handedly than BNXN had throughout his career.
BNXN took offense to Dotman’s claim, dismissing Mayorkun’s past achievements as “old glory” and arguing that only 2024’s accomplishments should be considered in any comparison.
His response, however, escalated when he used an insulting Yoruba word to describe Dotman, which sparked widespread criticism from fans online.
Supporters of Mayorkun quickly came to his defense, accusing BNXN of being disrespectful to a well-established artist in the industry.
This incident has ignited a broader debate about the nature of success and the criteria for measuring it in the music industry. Is success solely based on show sales, or should other factors like streaming numbers and chart performance also be considered?
The backlash against BNXN has been significant, with many calling for him to apologize to both Mayor of Lagos and Dotman. The controversy has put a spotlight on the challenges of handling public comparisons and the importance of respectful discourse within the industry.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how BNXN will address the backlash and what impact this incident will have on his career.
