Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has kicked off 2026 with the release of a brand-new single titled Pop Star, delivered through RBA/Empire.

Produced by Joker Nharnah, the track arrives at a moment when the artist is still riding the wave of his widely successful sophomore album Iron Boy. That project not only dominated streaming platforms and charts but also cemented his place as one of Africa’s most compelling voices on the global stage.
With Pop Star, Black Sherif explores a slightly different sonic direction while holding on to the raw honesty that has become his signature. The song captures the pressures that come with fame, while also reflecting the hunger and drive that continue to push him forward.
The release builds on the success of Iron Boy, a project praised for its emotional depth, genre fusion, and storytelling. The album made a strong impact internationally, charting at No. 6 on Spotify UK Top Albums, No. 10 on the Billboard World Albums chart, and No. 5 on Nigeria’s Top 100 albums. It also set a record as the first Ghanaian album to hit 2 million streams on its opening day.
Beyond streaming success, Black Sherif’s Iron Boy Tour saw him sell out venues across North America and Europe in record time, with stops in cities like Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Amsterdam, Paris, and London—where he achieved back-to-back sold-out shows at Shepherd’s Bush. The tour wrapped up on home soil in Accra with his annual Zaama Disco concert, drawing a crowd of 30,000 fans at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the new single, he said:
“With PopStar, I seek to reclaim the artist and entertainer that I long sought to be before I moved to the city, which then compelled me to be what I had to be”.
Since breaking through globally with “Second Sermon” alongside Burna Boy and his solo hit “Kwaku The Traveller,” Black Sherif has continued to blur genre lines—blending drill, highlife, hip-hop, and Afrobeats into a sound that resonates far beyond Ghana.
With Pop Star, he not only extends that momentum but also signals the start of what could be a defining year, with more music, performances, and creative ventures expected throughout 2026.
