Grammy Awards 2023: Nigerian songs that might be nominated for the new category.
As the nomination list for the Grammy Awards 2023 approaches, Billboard speculates on the possible Nigerian songs that might gain a nomination in the new category introduced.
A list of Afrobeats songs that are most likely to be nominated for the new Grammy Award category “Best African Music Performance” was released by Billboard.
As American media outlet Billboard revealed the only Nigerian songs that might be considered in the new category for African music, the Best African Music Performance category, the speculation and the eligibility period set by the Recording Academy of projects they might consider for the Grammy Awards 2024 have sparked a significant debate on social media.
Afrobeats songs that could be nominated for the 2023 Grammy Awards’ “Best African Music Performance” category were cited by Billboard in a recent article regarding predictions for upcoming Grammy nominations.
Afrobeats artists like Asake, Davido, and Rema could be nominated for a Grammy in the soon-to-be-announced 2023 Grammy nominations, claims a listicle by Billboard.
According to Billboard, the Recording Academy’s decision to properly recognize the Afrobeats genre and its success with a new category may have been greatly influenced by Essence and Last Last, arguably one of the biggest songs of 2021 and 2022, losing the best global music performance category.
The Afrobeats songs predicted by Billboard to be nominated are: ‘2:30’ by Asake; ‘Amapiano’ by Asake (feat. Olamide); ‘Charm’ by Rema; ‘Party No Dey Stop’ by Adekunle Gold (feat. Zinoleesky); ‘People’ by Libianca; ‘Reason’ by Omah Lay; ‘Sittin’ on Top of the World’ by Burna Boy; ‘Sowteto’ by Victony & Tempoe; and ‘Unavailable’ by Davido (feat. Musa Keys).
