- People advised me not to attend the VGMA because I hadn’t received any awards, King Promise.
A Ghanian musician identified as King Promise claims that after receiving many nominations for awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), he was urged to forgo the event.
In a TV3 interview, he asserted that he had defied advice to abandon the plan out of respect for his fans and other music lovers.
“Even with the VGMAs there were times where I had advice from people who were like ‘cancel it, don’t go again’. People say a lot of stuff, it’s up to you to make what you think of it.”
King Promise claimed he understood why he hadn’t received any accolades and that it wasn’t their fault.
“When I drop the music it goes crazy, so, I know the fans do support me”.
He also stated that “I always went still and performed, even when I didn’t win, I go the next year to perform, It’s about the fans for me.”
King Promise made it clear that even though he didn’t win several prizes, he would still continue to amuse his audience.
He continued by saying that he received two honors at the 2023 ending VGMAs as a consequence of his tenacity and devotion to his fans.
While everything was going on, Promise finally received recognition at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), taking home the Best Afropop/Afrobeat Artiste of the Year honor.
