With one week before the Big Brother show rounds up, celebrities and fans have been canvassing for votes for their faves. Teni who is an avid supporter of Laycon is taking part in these ongoing activities.

In one of those expressions of love for Laycon, Teni shared a video on Twitter where she prayed for the young man.

She started off the supplication by saying that ‘Omo Igbo’s’ should leave Laycon alone.

Wondering why Teni is trending? Watch!

A number of Nigerians on social media took that to mean that she was shading Erica and that her comment portrayed her as a tribalist.

This led to a sort of tribal war on Twitter with people from the eastern part of the country saying that they were proud to be ‘Omo Igbos’.

Some of them also said that being Igbo does not mean they cannot show love to Laycon.

Other groups of people felt that the singer’s statement was harmless and that there was nothing wrong with calling an Igbo person ‘Omo Igbo’.

Teni called Erica “omo Igbo,” you are getting angry because this is Twitter.

Offline, people call people “Omo igbo” “Aboki” “Alhaja” etc and we all live in peace but once it’s Twitter, you all be moving mad and stupidly sensitive because you have 10mb data. Oshisco

Nobody will see anything wrong in Teni addressing Erica as "Omo Igbo" but if an Igbo celeb like Genevieve Nnaji addresses Laycon as "Onye ofe mmanụ" in a solidarity video for Erica just like Teni did, there will be outrage everywhere. Hypocritical lots.!

#EricaOnceSaid Today I deleted all Teni songs on my phone and I unfollow her , yes I'm Petty like that when it's come to my Erica pic.twitter.com/SLs8hEw0kd

Teni, this is poor damage control. Your bigotry jumped out in your Laycon solidarity video..

You don't address Erica as "Omo Igbo". Same way I don't expect Rita Dominic or any Igbo celeb to address Laycon as "Onye ofe mmanụ".

Don't be divisive in your quest for votes.

Everyday in 9ja, we call each other names like; e.g, omo igbo, yoruba boy, aboki, even any girl named kafayat is automatically an Alhaja. So because Teni said "omo igbo" now una wan rush am because na celeb. Go and fight iya biliki calling you omo igbo in your street! #BBNaijia pic.twitter.com/mzU59atW2Z
