    Bayern Munich has announced the appointment of Vincent Kompany as their new head coach on a deal running until 2027.

    The Bundesliga giants had been searching for a new manager since agreeing to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the 2023/24 season in February. Despite being linked with former managers Julian Nagelsmann and Hansi Flick, as well as Ralf Rangnick, Bayern failed to reach agreements with any of them. Talks of potentially retaining Tuchel were dismissed by club chiefs.

    After considering other options like Erik ten Hag, Thomas Frank, and Roberto De Zerbi, Bayern settled on Burnley boss Kompany.

    In his statement to Bayern channels, Kompany expressed his excitement for the challenge, calling it a great honor to work for the club. He emphasized his coaching philosophy, highlighting the importance of creativity, aggression, and courage on the pitch. Kompany also expressed eagerness to work with the players and build a successful team.

    Kompany said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern. It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club – FC Bayern is an institution in international football. As a coach, you have to stand for who you are as a person: I love having the ball, being creative – and we also have to be aggressive on the pitch and courageous. I’m now looking forward to the most basic things: working with the players, building a team. When the foundation is in place, success will follow.”

He made it clear to us how much the job at FC Bayern appeals to him and that he absolutely wants to take it on. Vincent Kompany is hungry and has everything he needs: Even as a player, he was a leading figure in top international football and is also making progress as a coach. We would like to see more continuity in this position. Together with him, we want to achieve a lot at FC Bayern – and of course be successful together.”

    Kompany led Burnley to the Championship title in 2022/23 with attractive possession football. However, his young side struggled in the Premier League, resulting in relegation back to the second tier.

    Prior to managing Burnley, Kompany spent time in charge of Anderlecht, both as a manager and player-coach. With a win percentage of 43.23%, he has overseen 83 wins, 58 draws, and 51 losses across 192 games in management.

    Kompany faces a significant task at Bayern, as they finished third in the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season behind Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.
