Messi didn’t deserve to win Ballon d’Or over Haaland, others – Singer Bayanni
Nigerian singer Oladokun Abimbola Elijah, also known as Bayanni, has expressed his view that Argentine footballer Lionel Messi did not deserve to win the 2023 Men’s Ballon d’Or.
In his opinion, Bayanni believes that someone else could have won the award, but not Messi. He pointed out that Messi won the award despite not having achieved enough to merit it. Bayanni argued that many other players who have won the World Cup in the past did not receive the Ballon d’Or.
Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time in 2023, surpassing his competition, which included Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and others. Bayanni’s comments reflect a difference of opinion regarding the award and the criteria for its selection.
He said, “Based on what I’ve been hearing from people, Messi won the Ballon d’Or because he won the World Cup. But many people collected World Cup trophies in the past and they didn’t win the Ballon d’Or.
“What I’m saying is that it should have been Haaland or somebody else but not Messi.”
