Barry Jhay discloses how he turned down a record deal from Davido
Barry Jhay has revealed that he turned down a record deal offered to him by DMW founder David ‘Davido’ Adeleke years ago.
He claimed that the reason he turned down the offer was that he was not ready to compete with the other artists who were signed to the record label.
This was revealed by Barry during a discussion on Echo Room when he mentioned that Peruzzi was the last artist Davido had signed at the time.
He and Davido had collaborated on the song “Only You,” and OBO was impressed. OBO asked his attorney, Prince, to draught a contract, but the agreement fell through.
The singer claimed that he did not enjoy the excessive competition in DMW between Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and other artists.
He further explained that when the ‘FEM’ crooner tried to sign him, he felt that was not what he needed even though OBO and everyone in the music label supported his career.

In the same interview, Jhay who made headlines in 2021 after the death of his label boss Kashy Godson recounted his experience in Ghana detention.
The singer revealed he had to stay away from music for some period as the event left him traumatized.
The singer said he was held in detention for a month and two weeks in Ghana, as he stressed that he was not arrested because he was a suspect but to protect his life.
He said:
“I had to stay away from music, it caused me PTSD. I was not arrested because I was a suspect, they arrested and kept me because they thought some people were going to do something crazy to me.”
