Barcelona win 2022/23 La Liga title.
Barcelona have won their first La Liga title since 2019 and also without Lionel Messi thanks to a 4-2 win over inner-city rivals Espanyol on Sunday.
Robert Lewandowski gave La Blaurgana an early advantage in the match at the RCDE Stadium, and they never looked back, scoring two more goals before halftime, one from Alejandro Balde and one from Lewa.
At the start of the second half, Jules Kounde added a fourth goal, while Javier Puado and Joselu then scored consolation goals.
The victory marked Barca’s 28th in what has been an incredibly successful season under Xavi Hernandez. The Catalans dominated the La Liga championship race, winning the league with four games remaining while competing against Real Madrid, the undisputed champion of Europe, and a revitalized Atletico Madrid team.
Unexpectedly, Barcelona’s outstanding defensive performance has proved crucial to the victory. The team has only given up 13 goals in 34 league games this season, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen has a chance to break the existing record for clean sheets in the remaining games.
On the other end, Robert Lewandowski, a summer addition, contributed to yet another 30-goal season — his seventh straight 30-goal campaign.
La Blaugrana will be looking to bring their domestic form to the continent as well next season. After a respectable summer window in which they are set to add more top-notch depth to their squad, Barca will be optimistic that they can once again make a splash in Europe despite having had a relatively poor Champions League and Europa League season.
