Barcelona release home kit for 2023/24 season.
Barcelona have revealed their new home kit for the 2023–24 season, drawing inspiration from the women’s team’s recent victories.
The women’s team for La Blaugrana had achieved impressive results over the previous several seasons, winning four straight Liga F titles and the UEFA Women’s Champions League during the 2022–23 season courtesy of a 3-2 comeback triumph over VfL Wolfsburg.
The club also started to play at Camp Nou relatively frequently, setting a mark for female game attendance in 2022 when it defeated Wolfsburg 5-1 in front of nearly 90,000 spectators.
In honour of “the first women’s team to ever play a game of football at the Spotify Camp Nou, an example of Barça’s pioneering spirit, always adopting a leading role in both sport and society, coupled with continued success,” the club’s new jersey features a badge set into a diamond.
The first women’s team to play at Camp Nou did so back in 1970 when one Inma Cabeceran sent a letter to the club proposing the creation of a women’s team. The club responded by allowing a women’s game to be played at Camp Nou behind closed doors.
After this, the Forced Barcelona women’s supporters’ club was formed in 1971 – a supporters club which combined the club badged with a diamond for their logo.
During the next 2023–24 season, Barcelona’s men’s squad will be expecting to see success similar to that of the women’s team. Contrary to their women’s team, La Blaugrana men’s team significantly underperformed in European play, getting eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the group stages, despite winning their first La Liga title in four years last time out. In the forthcoming season, they plan to significantly improve upon these outcomes.
