Banky W reflects as he bags Master’s Degree from American University, welcomes second son during study journey
Nigerian singer, actor, and politician Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has marked a major academic and personal milestone by earning a master’s degree in policy management from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram on May 20, 2025, Banky W reflected on what he called a “stretching season” for himself and his family. He credited faith, resilience, and the unwavering support of loved ones for carrying him through the demanding journey of juggling fatherhood, full-time graduate studies, and public service.
“Faith gives you the courage, resilience and power to redefine endings. What many may see as the finish line of a journey can become the starting point of the next chapter of your story,” he wrote.
Banky W expressed pride and gratitude at completing his degree at Georgetown’s McCourt School of Public Policy, describing it as one of the best institutions in the world for public policy education.
“I’m grateful to have been able to study at one of the greatest schools on the planet for Public Policy… I have just earned my Master’s degree in Policy Management (some institutions call it an MPA – Master’s of Public Administration).”
He also revealed the joyous news that he and his wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, welcomed their second child, Hezekiah Oluwadarasimi Wellington, during his studies in the U.S. Balancing graduate school, parenting two children, and serving as a Fellow on Capitol Hill, Banky W admitted the journey was exhausting but rewarding.
“Parenting 2 children in the US, while earning a full-time Master’s and serving as a Fellow on Capitol Hill all at the same time was completely exhausting, but by the grace of God, the strength of faith and the support of family, friends and mentors, we did it!”
Banky W closed his message with a word of encouragement to dreamers and late bloomers, reminding them that it’s never too late to pursue a new path or redefine success.
“So as I prepare to step off the balcony and return to the dance floor, I hope you take this as a sign that it’s never too late to dream a new dream, or redefine the ending of an existing one.”
