Ayra Starr reveals how a freestyle video she was reluctant to post on social media got her signed to Mavin Records.
Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, better known by her stage name Ayra Starr, has talked about how she ignored a voice telling her not to share her first freestyle video, which ultimately helped her break into the music industry.
Ayra Starr claimed that she was a model before Don Jazzy signed her to Mavin Records and that despite her hesitation to show off her talent, her faith in God helped to launch a successful music career.
In an interview with Hip TV, the “Rush” singer claimed that Don Jazzy, the head of Mavin Records, contacted her via Instagram’s direct message shortly after she released a freestyle video.

She said:
“I just allowed God to manifest his grace through me. I use to model because I had to make little money for school but I always knew music was going to come.
“The way music manifested, the way it came into my life was like if I had not believed in God, it wouldn’t have happened. I just posted a cover on Instagram that day but I didn’t want to post it.
“I was like it’s too ugly, it’s too emotional, I shouldn’t post it and something kept telling me not to post it, but I posted it.
“It was not up to an hour, my record label boss saw the video and sent me a message like oh come to the studio – and here I am today.”
