“I Was 14 Then” – Ayra Starr Reveals How Her Muslim Math Teacher Predicted Her Joining Mavin
-
Ayra Starr shares how her Math Teacher encouraged her to pursue music and predicted her future.
According to Ayra Starr, when she was barely 14 years old, her math teacher predicted she would pursue a career in music.
She claimed that her Muslim teacher was impressed by her curiosity and love of music when she brought up this topic on the most recent episode of “Afrobeats Intelligence” with Joey Akan.
According to Ayra Starr, the instructor inspired her to join the choir and get better at singing.
She claims he explicitly guaranteed she would sign with Mavin, where she now is, and he also urged her to post her videos online for others to watch.
“I have a teacher that literally inspired me. He said I was going to be signed to Mavin. It’s crazy. I was 14 then, and he said, ‘Mavin is going to sign you. Start making videos.’ He would just inspire me. He was even Muslim, but he would tell me to go to church and join the choir. He was my math teacher.”

She also discussed her upbringing. Despite not coming from a religious home, the singer spoke of going to a deeper life school. She discussed various instances in which her curiosity resulted in trouble.
She cited particular instances where she contended that God never said that women shouldn’t wear trousers and was rebuked for doing so. Starr also related a time when she painted her nails pink and received criticism from the tackers for it.
The Mavin signee persisted in pursuing her passions, penning songs and giving performances at school functions, despite frequently receiving beatings at her Christian school for asking too many questions.
