Atletico Madrid have confirmed Conor Gallagher signing from Chelsea
Atletico Madrid have officially signed England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Chelsea on a five-year contract for a reported fee of £34 million. This transfer, which had faced delays due to complications related to an adjacent deal for Samu Omorodion, has now been finalized, marking a significant addition to Atlético’s squad.
Gallagher, 24, had been training separately from Chelsea’s first-team squad at Cobham as the move neared completion, under the guidance of Blues head coach Enzo Maresca.
His transfer to Atlético comes after making 95 appearances for Chelsea, where he scored ten goals and frequently captained the team in Reece James‘ absence last season under former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Atlético Madrid’s acquisition of Gallagher adds to their busy summer transfer activity, with the club also bringing in players like Robin Le Normand, Alexander Sorloth, and Julián Álvarez as they aim to compete for domestic and Champions League honors.
Gallagher’s departure also aids Chelsea in streamlining their squad, which has expanded significantly due to BlueCo’s strategy of signing young players on long-term contracts.
Chelsea’s midfield in their Premier League opener against Manchester City featured new signings Moisés Caicedo, Roméo Lavia, and Enzo Fernández, but they were overshadowed by former Chelsea player Mateo Kovačić, who scored in City’s 2-0 victory.
Chelsea’s summer signings include Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Viega, and Caleb Wiley.
Meanwhile, former loanee João Félix is close to securing a permanent move back to the club. The futures of Raheem Sterling and Armando Broja remain uncertain, with Sterling left out of the squad against City and Broja expected to join Ipswich Town on loan.
