Court grants Portable bail for assault and others.
On Monday, the magistrate court in Ifo, Ogun State, granted bail to Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable.
According to an earlier report from Mp3bullet.ng, Portable was charged with three counts of assault and theft of musical instruments by the Ogun State Police Command.
Recall that CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, had stated that Portable would be charged with more than six offences relating to suspected assault and his inciting remarks against the police.
When the matter was heard in the Ifo High Court in Ogun State, the judge granted bail and asked that the bail requirement be satisfied before the defendant left the courthouse.
The bail condition includes a #300,000 (three hundred thousand naira) fee and two shorties from his immediate relatives. The bail conditions were presently being met by his family at the court before filing this report.
The singer’s troubles with the law allegedly began last week when he claimed in an Instagram Live video that police had attacked his restaurant in Sango Ota at the behest of an online fraudster.
In response to the video, which has since gone viral and caused some online controversy, the musician was invited to the Ogun State Police Command’s headquarters.
Nonetheless, Portable decided to disregard the police’s repeated invitations, stating that they were unnecessary because he earns his money “legitimately.”
The 29-year-old also claimed that he was “a federal government liability”.
