Rapper ASAP Rocky arrested over a shooting incident
The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested ASAP Rocky in connection with a shooting that occurred in November 2021.
The Department reported on Twitter on Wednesday that the rapper, whose official name is Rakim Meyers, was detained at the Los Angeles International Airport for assault with a handgun.
Police said an argument between “two acquaintances” escalated and resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim.
Following the shooting, the suspect and two additional males fled the scene on foot.
Authorities later identified the rapper as the suspect.
“33-year-old Rakim Mayers, a Los Angeles resident, also known as music artist A$AP Rocky, has been arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred in the Hollywood area in November of 2021,” the tweet read.
According to the LAPD, the victim stated that the rapper shot at them during an encounter in November.
The statement read in part, “On November 6, 2021 around 10:15pm, an argument between two acquaintances occurred in the area of Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue, in the Hollywood Area.
“The argument escalated and resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim. The victim sustained a minor injury from the incident, and later sought his medical treatment. Following the shooting, the two additional males fled the area on foot.”
The rapper was returning from Barbados with his pregnant girlfriend, Rihanna when the arrest was made, TMZ reports.
As of 4 pm, the rapper was released from LAPD headquarters and whisked away in an SUV.

It was reported that his bail was set at $550,000 and Cops were sighted wrapping up their search at A$AP Rocky’s house, leaving with a box of potential evidence, though it’s unclear what was inside.
This won’t be the first time the rapper would be jailed.
The rapper ran into trouble with the law in 2019 after he was arrested in Sweden.
He was arrested for his involvement in a public fight with some alleged drug addicts.
In an interview, he described his time in prison as a “very difficult and humbling experience.”
He was jailed for a month.
Rocky and his partner Rihanna are expecting their first child together.
