Asake’s ‘Work Of Art’ ranked the best Nigerian album of 2023
Asake’s second studio album has garnered international acclaim from entertainment news agencies, being hailed as the best Nigerian album of 2023. Released on June 16, 2023, the 14-track album stands as a testament to his position as one of Nigeria’s foremost afrobeat exports.
Renowned entertainment news agency Rollingstone placed “Work of Art” at the pinnacle of the best Nigerian albums of 2023. It secured the second spot in the ranking of the best African albums of the year, trailing behind Amaarae’s “Fountain Baby.”
Album rankings typically consider critical reviews, commercial success, fan reception, and cultural impact. Positive reviews from music critics, robust sales or streaming numbers, and the album’s ability to resonate deeply with listeners all contribute to its overall standing.
The top 100 albums of 2023 list featured YBNL signees, along with Amaarae, Mr Eazi, Burna Boy, and Adekunle Gold. The ranking of African albums on the list includes Amaarae’s “Fountain Baby” at #26, Asake’s “Work of Art” at #37, Mr. Eazi’s “The Evil Genius” at #63, Burna Boy’s “I Told Them…” at #71, and Adekunle Gold’s “Tequila Ever After” at #85.
Rollingstone was not the sole media outlet recognizing the excellence of Asake’s “Work of Art“; Jon Caramanica of The New York Times also ranked the album as the best release of 2023.
