Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ sets new record for biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria
Afrobeats sensation Asake has broken streaming records with his latest album, “Lungu Boy,” achieving the highest first-week streams ever on Spotify Nigeria.
Released on August 9, 2024, this third album from Asake features collaborations with Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, American superstar Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer Ludmila.
“Lungu Boy” set a new benchmark for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, amassing 15.47 million streams in just five days, surpassing the previous record of 14.4 million streams held by Davido’s “Timeless.”
This achievement comes after “Lungu Boy” surpassed Rema’s “HEIS” for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria in 2024, accomplishing this in just four days.

Internationally, “Lungu Boy” made history by equaling the record for the highest-charting Nigerian album on the Apple Music US chart, a title shared with Wizkid’s “S2” EP, Burna Boy’s “I Told Them,” and Davido’s “Timeless.”
The album also reached No. 1 on the Apple Music UK chart, marking Asake’s third album to achieve this milestone, following his debut album “Mr. Money With The Vibe” and his sophomore album “Work of Art.”
“Lungu Boy” is Asake’s third album in three years, solidifying his status as an era-defining superstar with an unstoppable streak of hits.
