Nigerian artist Asake has addressed suggestions that he should sing more in English and less in Yoruba, making it clear that he feels most comfortable expressing himself in his native language.

During an Instagram Live Q&A session with fans on Saturday, August 11, Asake emphasized that while he is capable of singing in English, his preference is to sing in Yoruba.

He stated unapologetically, “If you fuck with me, fuck with me with my Yoruba, and if you don’t fuck with me, don’t fuck with me with my Yoruba. I cannot be what I am not. I am a real Yoruba man.” This bold statement underscores his commitment to staying true to his artistic identity and cultural heritage.

Asake’s stance highlights the importance of authenticity in music and the value of embracing and showcasing one’s roots.

Fans have praised his honesty and dedication to promoting the Yoruba language through his music, applauding his resolve to remain authentic to his culture.
