Asake opens up on surprise Wizkid collaboration
Afrobeat artist Asake has shared the story behind his unexpected collaboration with Wizkid on the hit track “MMS,” revealing, “I didn’t know he was going to jump on it.”
During a recent Instagram Live session, Asake opened up about working with Wizkid for the first time and how the collaboration came to be.
Asake explained that he originally had another artist in mind for the feature, but music producer P.Prime had different plans. “I had someone else in mind, but P.Prime played the song for Wizkid, and he loved it,” Asake said.
Wizkid’s spontaneous contribution to the track has been widely praised and is considered one of the standout moments on Asake’s newly released third studio album, “Lungu Boy.”
Asake also expressed his admiration for Wizkid, calling their collaboration the “number-one song in the country.” The unexpected feature has generated excitement throughout the music industry, with fans and critics alike applauding the chemistry between these two Afrobeat powerhouses.

Asake’s third studio album, “Lungu Boy,” has already made waves, and “MMS” stands out as a major success. With 870,000 streams on its first full day, the song has set a new benchmark on the Spotify Top Songs Nigeria daily chart, surpassing Wizkid’s previous record with “IDK,” featuring Zlatan, which had 626,000 streams on its debut day.
