Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ahmed Ololade, better known by his stage name Asake, has shared how he adopted his mother’s name as part of his musical identity.

The “Joha” hitmaker revealed that during his school days, members of his cultural group often called him “Omo Asake,” a nickname that eventually inspired his professional moniker.
“People stopped adding the ‘Omo’ and just left ‘Asake.’ I thought it was cool and decided to go by it. It’s very important to me, and I’m not going to lose it. It’s what has brought me this far, and I continue to keep it that way,” he explained.
Asake also highlighted the significance of the name within his family. His mother, whose name he adopted, is a deeply prayerful woman who was thrilled when he began using her name on stage.
The singer, known for his playful personality, also joked about the attention the name draws, particularly from female fans. He quipped that he enjoys the admiration as much as they enjoy the name, blending personal pride with his signature charm.
For Asake, the name is more than just a brand; it’s a tribute to his mother and a symbol of the journey that has brought him to the forefront of Nigeria’s music scene.
