Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ tour kicks off with a bang, breaks multiple records
Afrobeats sensation Asake has made history with the kickoff of his highly anticipated “Lungu Boy” tour, selling out the iconic Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The concert, held on Friday, August 16, 2024, set a new milestone for African artists performing in the United States. The event showcased his hit singles and tracks from his recently released third album, “Lungu Boy.”
The “Lungu Boy” tour will span six major U.S. cities, with Asake headlining prominent venues such as the Toyota Center in Houston, State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and Madison Square Garden in New York.
Asake’s latest album, “Lungu Boy,” has achieved remarkable success, breaking records on Spotify Nigeria. It garnered 18.9 million streams in its opening week, surpassing Davido’s previous record of 14.4 million streams with “Timeless.”
The album also holds the record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, ahead of releases by top artists like Davido, Rema, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.
Additionally, “Lungu Boy” set a new record for the largest opening day global streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify, with 9.2 million streams. The second track, “MMS,” also set a record on Spotify Nigeria, with 870,577 streams on its first day, surpassing Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan.
With these impressive achievements and his growing popularity, Asake’s tour is expected to be a major success.
