Mikel Arteta offers update on Arsenal’s ‘targets and ideas’ ahead of January transfer window
Speaking about Arsenal’s intentions for the January transfer window, Mikel Arteta disclosed if the team intends to add players.
The Spanish manager said that the team has made a shortlist of individuals they hope to add during the next transfer window, but he insisted that they are unable to sell or loan out any players since they require more players in order to bolster their bench.
Speaking to reporters, Arteta said, “At the moment it’s very difficult. We are really short. There are positions where we’ve been exposed in the last few weeks. Hopefully, we’ll get players back – in what condition and when that’s a different condition.”
He added, “Yeah we have certain targets and ideas. We don’t know how the squad is going to look in two weeks. It’s a very tricky market that shifts quite quickly. If there is something that can improve the squad, we’re always going to be open to do that.”
A number of key players, including Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jorginho, Thomas Partey, and Fabio Vieira, are now out for the Gunners because of injury.
On Christmas Day, they were in the lead in the Premier League championship contest, having held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday. However, following Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Burnley by the Reds, they were knocked out of the top spot.
When Arteta’s team plays West Ham United at Emirates Stadium on Thursday, they will be going all out for three points. Arteta’s team has only won once in their past three Premier League games.
