Arsenal fans mock PSV over pre-match Gabriel Jesus tweet as three injured stars return.
PSV Eindhoven have begun to raise the stakes ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Arsenal, with a pre-match tweet sparking a backlash from Gunners fans.
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II at the beginning of last month, the match between the two teams will now take place at the Emirates.
Arsenal’s match against Manchester City will now be played at a later date to allow the Gunners to fulfil their European obligations. This match was previously slated to be played this week, along with nine other Premier League games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Thursday’s face-off is the start of a potentially decisive double header which is likely to determine who wins Group A – and thus avoids facing a Champions League drop-out in the play-offs next February.
Arsenal now holds the group lead with three victories and nine points, but PSV has a chance to overtake Arsenal if they perform well over the next few days. Next week, Arsenal will go to Eindhoven.

Ahead of that first encounter on Thursday evening, PSV’s Twitter account decided to begin ramping things up with a rather loaded tweet.
The Dutch team posted a picture of the talented youngster Xavi Simons, who has eight goals in 10 Eredivisie games this season, along with the message “Calling Arsenal.” Gabriel Jesus, is he home?
The taunting did not go over well with Arsenal fans, who swamped PSV’s Twitter account with messages from Gunners supporters warning they could regret the post—especially if Mikel Arteta uses it as inspiration, as he memorably did with an Ivan Toney tweet from last season.
In response to PSV’s tweet, one fan said, “You don’t want to make that call bro.”
Others responded that Jesus, who hasn’t played in the Europa League this year, would probably be rested but “Eddie Nketiah can pick up your phone instead.”
