Arsenal manager Arteta shares details of Martinelli’s injury
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has disclosed that Gabriel Martinelli sustained a hamstring injury before being substituted during the match against Everton.
The Brazilian forward’s time on the pitch was short-lived, as he only managed to play for 24 minutes at Goodison Park before being forced to leave the field.
Martinelli’s injury occurred when he was in the midst of a goal-scoring opportunity that was ultimately ruled out after a VAR offside review. As a result of his injury, he was replaced by Leandro Trossard, who went on to score the only goal of the game.
Arteta told Sky Sports afterwards when asked for an update on Martinelli: “He felt something in his hamstring so he will need to be assessed.”
Despite the injury setback to Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal found positives in their narrow win over Everton. The team’s performance included causing problems for Everton with short corner routines, and it was from one of these routines that Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta highlighted the importance of mixing things up and being versatile in their approach. Varying their tactics and strategies, such as utilizing short corner routines effectively, allowed them to create opportunities and ultimately secure a positive result.
“Obviously they are very strong in the box so we need alternatives. It’s about creating a story in the game and the players have to sense when is the best moment to do it.”
He added to BBC Sport: “We have to keep finding different weapons to win games. We win a lot of corners and we have to maximise that, for sure.”
As of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, Arsenal has maintained an unbeaten record in their first five fixtures. The team, which finished as runners-up in the previous season, has accumulated an impressive 13 points out of a possible 15. This strong start to the season has positioned Arsenal in fourth place in the league table.
