Arsenal make the 100 club! Gunners join four other European sides to bring up a century of goals in 2023 after strikes against Wolves.
Arsenal has joined an exclusive group of teams, including Manchester City and Real Madrid, that have achieved a century of goals in 2023.
In their latest fixture at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Arsenal maintained their usual performance standards by defeating Gary O’Neil’s Wolves 2-1. Bukayo Saka and captain Martin Odegaard secured a comfortable 2-0 lead within the first quarter, and Saka’s goal marked the Gunners’ 100th goal across all competitions in 2023. This achievement places them among the top five teams in the big five European leagues to reach this milestone.
Currently, Arsenal’s perennial rivals, Manchester City, lead the goal-scoring charts with an impressive 137 goals, largely fueled by the explosive form of Erling Haaland. Following closely are Spanish giants Real Madrid, with 119 goals. Despite the departure of Karim Benzema, the addition of summer signing Jude Bellingham has maintained their goal-scoring prowess. Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen of Germany occupy the third and fourth spots with 111 and 110 goals, respectively.
Following the win against Wolves, Arsenal has surged four points ahead at the top of the standings. The pressure now shifts to Pep Guardiola’s team, which must deliver in a high-stakes clash against Tottenham on Sunday evening to stay in the chase.
Having accumulated 29 goals in 14 matches, Arsenal is reportedly considering a January move for Ivan Toney to bolster their attacking lineup as manager Arteta aims to strengthen the squad further. With four victories in their last five Premier League games, Arsenal is riding high at the top and looks to maintain their impressive form in the upcoming match against Luton Town on Tuesday evening.
