Arsenal complete £12m Jorginho transfer from Chelsea
Arsenal FC have confirmed and announced the signing of Italian midfielder Jorginho from London rivals Chelsea in a £12 million deal.
The 31-year-old midfielder had a medical on Tuesday morning, and the Gunners have now confirmed his arrival.
Jorginho signed an 18-month deal that will keep him at Arsenal through the summer of 2024, though they do have the option to extend it by another year.
The Italian international will cost the Premier League leaders an initial £10 million, with an additional £2 million to be paid in add-ons later on.
In a statement, Chelsea paid tribute to their now-former midfielder, saying: “A leader on and off the pitch from the moment he arrived in west London from Napoli, Jorginho was coolness personified from the penalty spot with his trademark hop-skip technique.
“A friendly and funny guy off the pitch, Jorginho leaves Chelsea with 213 appearances to his name and four winners’ medals, none more precious than the 2021 Champions League success in which he played a major part. Good luck in the future, Jorgi!”

Arsenal Sporting Director Edu said: “Jorginho is an established professional with a strong mentality who brings quality and experience into our squad.
“He is a player who fits our style of play, and he joins us at a very good moment where he can contribute in a key position to help maintain our momentum. We welcome Jorginho to Arsenal.”
Manager Mikel Arteta added: “Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here.

Ahead of Saturday’s game at Everton, Jorginho will instantly join up with his new teammates wearing the number 20 shirt.
