World-famous boxer Anthony Joshua has finally spoken out, days after online critics accused him of showing little emotion at the funeral of his close friends.

The backlash followed a tragic road accident that occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, in Makun, Ogun State. The crash reportedly happened around 11 a.m. along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, just before the Sagamu Interchange. Joshua was in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
According to reports, two members of his team, Latif and Sina, lost their lives instantly. Both men were seated in the front of the car, while Joshua was in the back. Latif served as Joshua’s personal trainer, while Sina was his strength and conditioning coach.
When videos from their funeral service in the UK surfaced online, many social media users misread Joshua’s calm appearance. His composed demeanor led to assumptions that he was unaffected by the loss, sparking criticism and harsh commentary.
However, Joshua has now addressed the narrative. Taking to his Instagram page on January 8, 2025, the boxing star shared tribute graphics of his late friends and poured out his grief, making it clear that the accident deeply shattered him.
In his emotional message, Joshua admitted that he only fully realized how much Latif and Sina meant to him after their passing. He described their bond as one filled with laughter, everyday conversations, and moments he once took for granted.
While acknowledging the pain he feels, Joshua emphasized that the loss is even heavier for the families left behind, especially the parents of his late friends. Still, he said he is leaning on faith and inner strength to get through the difficult period.
He wrote, “Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn’t even realise how special they are. I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.
100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents ❤️ I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers 🙏🏾”
Joshua’s message has since drawn sympathy from fans and supporters, many of whom praised him for addressing the situation and reminding the public that grief does not always look the same for everyone.
