Tottenham close on Ange Postecoglou appointment.
According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are close to confirming the appointment of Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou as their new boss.
Before the Scottish Cup final on Sunday against Inverness, which the Bhoys won 3-1 and completed a sixth domestic triple in seven seasons, Australian Postecoglou batted aside questions about his future.
The 57-year-old was coy when asked about his future in the immediate aftermath of that game. When asked why he couldn’t banish the links with Spurs, he said: “Because I think I deserve to enjoy this moment just like everyone else. I worked really hard for this moment.
“I owe it to my friends and to my family. I get why you have to ask the question, but from my perspective, I deserve to enjoy this moment.
“There will be a time to come for those kinds of questions but for now, we’ve grasped a small chunk of history for ourselves and I’m not going to pass that by by being side tracked.”
The agreement between Spurs and Postecoglou is reportedly being finalized at the moment.
Arne Slot stayed at Feyenoord, and Mauricio Pochettino returned to the Premier League to grab the Chelsea position after the north London club had backed out of discussions with Julian Nagelsmann.
Since taking manager at Celtic in 2021, Postecoglou has seen considerable success. Prior to this season’s domestic triple, the Scottish giants obtained the Premiership championship in his debut campaign.
Postecoglou led the national side through World Cup qualifying and won championships with South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar in Australia before stepping down.
If he is named manager of Spurs, one obvious problem he will have to deal with is what will happen to star striker Harry Kane.
Real Madrid is interested in signing the England captain because they need to replace Karim Benzema, who will depart the Bernabeu this summer.
