Simon Cowell, an emotional “America’s Got Talent” judge, lauded the Mzansi Youth Choir, whose audition won a golden buzzer, calling it “breathtaking”.
The Mzansi Youth Choir, a group of South African singers, has won over the judges of America’s Got Talent time and time again, even causing music mogul Simon Cowell to cry during their audition!
After receiving Season 18’s first golden buzzer, the team advanced to the competition’s semifinals in August.
A few days prior to the choir’s successful audition, South African Musa Motha had already qualified for the Britain’s Got Talent finals.
Their musical equivalents are on their approach to accomplishing what the Ndlovu Youth Choir accomplished three years ago when they advanced to the finals of America’s Got Talent.
The trio wowed the judges, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mendel, with their rendition of It’s Okay, an original song written by Season 16 finalist Jane Marczewski.
After a struggle with breast cancer, Jane, better known by her stage name Nightbirde, passed away in February 2022.
After the Mzansi Youth Choir‘s stunning, unison performance, there was not a dry eye in the house. Even Simon Cowell, who is renowned for his harsh, serious demeanor, was soon brought to tears.
He said, “I know how much this would’ve meant to her. Right until the end, she was so passionate about sharing her music”.
He added: “You’ve come here with the most amazing tribute. It was just breathtaking. Honestly”.
Both the judges and the audience agreed that the group deserved to receive the group golden buzzer.
One of the group members reflected on their song selection by saying, “This song has been such a pillar of support for our choir during terrible times”.
“We just want to continue her legacy, and that’s why we chose this song.”
Moving forward, Mzansi Youth Choir will compete in the competition’s semifinals in August.
