Nigerian international superstar Tiwa Savage shared her insights into Afrobeats’ global success in an interview on Kiss Fresh. During the interview, she discussed her debut feature film, ‘Water & Garri,’ which she both starred in and executive produced.
Tiwa Savage expressed that it felt like the right time to expand her creative pursuits beyond music, and working on ‘Water & Garri‘ provided that opportunity. The film, released on May 10, 2024, came out alongside a soundtrack album featuring guest appearances from Ayra Starr, Young Jonn, Black Sherif, and The Cavemen, among others.
When asked about collaborating with Brandy, Tiwa Savage described it as a significant moment for her, as the American R&B superstar inspired her to start singing.
Speaking about the global rise of Afrobeats, Tiwa noted that it was a full-circle moment, emphasizing that all music originates from Africa, so it was inevitable for African music to eventually receive the global recognition it deserves.
During her appearance on Kiss Fresh, Ayra Starr mentioned Tiwa Savage as one of the female African artists excelling on the global stage. Tiwa Savage responded by describing Ayra Starr as an amazing singer and a genuine person whom she loves very much.
