Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has publicly addressed the ongoing transfer saga surrounding his future at St James’ Park as the summer window nears its close.

The Swedish forward released a statement via his official Instagram page on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, confirming that his relationship with the Magpies has reached a breaking point.

According to Isak, the club failed to honour agreements made with him regarding his long-term future, leading to a complete breakdown in trust.

    He stated:

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. I am proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25. First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way.”

Explaining why he was absent from the PFA ceremony, Isak continued:

“I am not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there. I have kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time.

To act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

The 25-year-old has made it clear from the start of the transfer window that his preferred destination is Liverpool. The Reds have already submitted an opening bid, which Newcastle swiftly rejected.

However, reports from Anfield indicate that Liverpool are reluctant to overspend on the deal. At the same time, Newcastle are unwilling to sanction his departure unless they secure at least two strikers to replace him.
