Global music icon Akon has been officially announced as the host of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draw (AFCON).
The draw ceremony is scheduled to take place at the state-of-the-art Parc des Expositions in Abidjan on Thursday. AKON, a Senegalese superstar, will co-host the event alongside former Cote d’Ivoire captain Yaya Toure.
AKON is renowned not only for his musical prowess but also for his extensive philanthropic endeavors, particularly within Africa. His role as the host for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw underscores his engagement in both the realms of entertainment and sports.
The two are expected to make the much-awaited event even more glamorous when the 24 qualified countries learn who their group-stage opponents will be.
Millions of people are anticipated to watch the draw on CAF’s official YouTube channel and other CAF Global TV partners, who will broadcast it in more than 50 countries.
From January 13 to February 11, Cote d’Ivoire will host the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Africa Cup of Nations is one of the most esteemed soccer (football) competitions in the continent. Featuring national teams from all around Africa, it is put on by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
