‘Undeniably the blueprint for Afrobeats’ – Adekunle Gold praises 2Baba
Nigerian artist AG Baby has showered praise on the legendary musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as his debut solo album, ‘Face2Face,’ celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Gold hailed the project as “undeniably the blueprint for Afrobeats,” recognizing its seminal impact on the genre.
It’s worth recalling that 2Baba, formerly known as 2Face, unleashed his inaugural solo album, ‘Face2Face,’ on May 15, 2003, following his departure from the boy band, Plantashun Boiz.
This album, released under Kennis Music, featured standout tracks such as ‘Nfana Ibaga’ and the timeless classic ‘African Queen,’ which left an indelible mark on the Nigerian and African music scene.
‘Face2Face’ holds a special place in the hearts of music enthusiasts, revered as the archetype for debut albums in the Afrobeats genre.
Adekunle Gold emphasized that 2Baba’s enduring artistry and influence continue to inspire subsequent generations of musicians, solidifying his status as an icon in the industry.
