Adekunle Gold reveals the song he regrets making
Nigerian music sensation AG Baby has shared a rare glimpse into the emotional side of music-making, revealing a career regret that has surprised many fans.
On Sunday, May 26, 2024, Adekunle Gold responded candidly to a fan’s question on social media about whether there were any of his songs that he regretted making. In an unexpected revelation, Adekunle Gold admitted that he feels regretful about one of his tracks, specifically citing “Ready.”
“Ready,” which was part of his debut album Gold, released in 2016, was an attempt to replicate the success of his hit song “Pick Up.” However, the singer confessed that the song did not meet his expectations and has haunted him ever since.
In a recent interaction, Adekunle Gold disclosed that he avoids performing “Ready” at shows due to this disappointment. He emphasized to his fans the importance of allowing him to create music in his unique style, describing his work as “one of one and timeless.”
Lmao! Ha! Ok let me finally say it. “READY”
I wanted to replicate the success of “PICK UP” so i made the exact sound just different story and till today it haunts me. Infact, i don’t perform it for that reason. 😭 So when you people say give us songs like so so so I just laugh… https://t.co/b1kkxyephb— BIG FISH 🦈 (@adekunleGOLD) May 26, 2024
Recall, AG Baby expressed regret over recording a song about a past heartbreak involving an ex-girlfriend. The song in question, “Damn Delilah,” from his debut album “About 30,” recounts his painful experience with a manipulative ex-girlfriend.
When another fan asked for the full story, Adekunle Gold provided a detailed account: “You people [stress emoji]. I have told the story many times. Anyways, I was in a relationship with a girl that had a boyfriend (I didn’t know). Me I don fall, but the babe dey play me. Long story short, one Saturday morning, I got a threat call from a random guy saying I should back off, I should never speak to his woman again. I called the babe immediately, she don block me everywhere. Lol. I got so heartbroken and made ‘Damn Delilah.’”
